Knives are no longer provided with a scabbard*
Thanks to
Jerry Hossom and the Usual Suspects my corruption is complete and the
result is the Pit-Fighter. After the Vegas Classic in 2005 I came
up with this knife which was dubbed at Blade Show that year as the Pit
Fighter- conjuring images of barbaric duels fought in spike-lined pits
to the cries of a blood-thirsty drunken crowd, no doubt.
Thinking about it, I've finally realized where the name came from- the
bar in the lobby at the Waverly Renaissance Galleria Hotel where the
Blade Show is held is known as 'The Pit' and that's where the fellow
who named it first saw it. He referred to it by that name so that
I'd know which knife he meant! I'd thought of calling it 'Poor
Impulse Control' as
that's what resulted in it's creation, but Pit-Fighter stuck in my
head, so Pit Fighter it is. The Pit Fighter is designed to be
used comfortably in either a fore-hand or reverse grip- the shape and
contour of the handle provide a very secure grip either way.

The Blade is 5160 spring steel, lightly acid-etched and then
blued. . The
blade is cannel ground with a gently convex
section from the spine all the way to the edge. The back-edge is
fully sharpened, and when thrusting the semi-sharp 'tanto' section of
the leading edge forces a powerful shearing action with the
back-edge. The convex true-edge features large, shallow
serrations. The
scales in the example shown are
Cocobolo wood, but a variety of other materials are available. The
scales are secured by Allen-head screws, passed through the tang into a
recessed nut embedded in the material on the opposite side, so the
scales can be removed for cleaning, replacement or if you want to later
apply some form of high-tech coating to the steel.
This Model can be custom
ordered as seen for $325US
Pit-Fighter-MS

The Pit-Fighter-MS features a 9 inch blade of the same 5160 spring
steel as the Pit Fighter. The 'MS' might stand for Max Size or
Magnum-Something-or-other but it doesn't- it stands for Mike
Stillwell. When the photos of the Pit Fighter were released Mike
took some time with Photoshop to conceptualize a longer version of the
Pit Fighter and subsequently ordered a knife based on his concept-
resulting in this blade. The blade is extended to 9 inches and is
finished with a light acid-etch then blued. Excellent
balance is preserved by carefully adding mass to the hilt and
increasing the distal taper of the blade making this a very fast knife
in either a fore-hand or reverse grip. Available with either
exotic hardwood or Micarta scales.
This knife can be custom ordered for $425US
* I have recently calculated what it costs me to make the scabbards for
these knives- and it is too much! Most people want to have a
Kydex (tm) or similar scabberd made so to keep the price low unter the
new pricing a sheath will no longer be included
